Geologically known as ferruginous limestone of the middle lias, this scientific name captures nothing of the rare colour qualities of Hornton Stone that can range from a warm light brown, through brown-purple, grey and green to various shades of mouve and blue. A stone noted for its hard wearing properties and ease of working is it any wonder that architects and artists have admired and used it for centuries?

Liners The liner is totally cover by natural stone, the bottom of the pond in this picture is covered in pebbles and shingle to give a natural look. The liners I use are only the very best, (butyl) with a good quality poly fibrelay underlay Pumps I only use good quality pumps to enable high water flow rates at greater heights and longer hose lengths, as well as all this to take in dirty pond water and push it through a pond filter. The pump are placed in a sump covered by rocks Piping The piping is statically placed under the rocks so none of the rigid plastic pipe is seen Filters The filters are designed to give healthy pond water as well as crystal clear water using a UV eradicating suspended algae. Once again the filters a use can be buried in order to help disguise them.

There are many different types of water features available these days starting from basic pebble kit to big ponds. Water features are a great focal points to the gardens offering relxasation and tranqulatiy.

 

Self contain features have a little resourviours which contain a pump which circulates water through the feature. The main advantage of these are that they safe water features when thinking about kids as they don’t contain standing water.
